Recently, I started noticing that even though I make an effort not to get too pulled into the world of quick hits from TikTok or YouTube Shorts, I have fallen into a similar trap with Twitch.
I've sunk more hours than I can count into watching my favorite Twitch streamers and I've now realized it's nothing more than software developers like ThePrimagen reading news for their viewership, similar to streamers who play games.
They occasionally throw in a bit of coding and gameplay, but it's heavily weighted towards reaction content. It feels like this is no better than watching reality TV.
So, starting last week, I’ve taken an indefinite break from watching it to try and save myself from brain rot. Why am I listening to someone read me a tech news article or blog post when I can just read it myself? Why do I care about the opinion of a Twitch streamer, someone I don’t personally know?
Maybe I won’t in the near future, and I'll get back to the fun adventures of the internet on my own.
P.S., don't get me wrong, some of the messages from these streamers like ThePrimagen are great and I'll still no doubt watch their condensed YouTube videos with guest speakers or some of the educational content.
