Over the last 6 months or so, I have slowly been building a new project called HR Toolbox, which, as you might have guessed from its name, is a HR Management System. It has been an exciting project to work on from an HR professional's point of view instead of a software engineering one. My wife works in HR, which has been very useful when I've needed to bounce ideas off someone and for her insights into how things work in an HR role.

The reason I started working on the HR Toolbox is that I have used many different HR systems over the years as an employee and they haven't been user-friendly and have been rather boring. They seemed to only be used for managing time off requests. And I think they could be user friendly and a useful tool to more than just a HR team.

Of course, you have to start with a base product and this is simply the standard solution for employee and time off management.

Saying that there are a bunch more features coming along nicely

There are plenty more ideas I have for making the boring things more fun.

I am thinking I might write a future blog post about the technology that the HR Toolbox uses so check back in a few months to see if there is one if you're interested in that :).
